In yesterday’s blog post, I introduced our first KnowledgeDrive, which will be taking place over the next two
months. During the KnowledgeDrive, I’m asking members of the greater Path of the Blue Eye Project community to make 120 submissions to Living the Path’s NewsHub and Q&A Center. If we reach our goal, we’ll donate 120 books to First Book, a non-profit dedicated to providing books to low-income kids.
Some of you may be wondering why I selected this charity for the KnowledgeDrive. I just sent a note to the members of our Facebook community that explains why. I rarely (and prefer not to) talk publicly about my past, but I thought it would be appropriate in this instance. Following is the text of my letter. I hope it helps you understand why I think sharing knowledge is so important and my belief in the power of books to transform and inspire.
Happy New Year everyone!
I’m writing today to tell you about a special project we just launched at the Path of the Blue Eye Project. It’s called the KnowledgeDrive and it is designed to help the Project meet its objective of encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing among health marketers from around the world.
Before getting into the details about the KnowledgeDrive, I want to share a personal story.
I spent many of my formative years in the midst of the inner city — specifically Harlem, USA. I lived there during the height of the crack epidemic that was destroying my community from the inside out. I saw many disturbing things in those days while I walked streets littered with crack vials and bordered by once beautiful buildings that had become burnt out shells.
You may be wondering how I coped. Well, the answer is simple: books. We didn’t have money to buy books, but fortunately, I had access to many fantastic public libraries. Each week, I walked or took public transportation to one of them in order to satisfy my book addiction. I was always reading . . . on the train, at school — and sometimes — while walking the streets.
Books transported me to many different worlds and helped show me that things were better elsewhere.
This brings me back to the KnowledgeDrive and the charity I’m asking you to help the Project support, First Book (www.firstbook.org). This non-profit is dedicated to delivering free books to low-income children. Not only does this help them become more literate, but reading can inspire these kids and encourage them to reach new heights.
Over the next 60 days, I’m asking members of the Path of the Blue Eye Project community to make 120 contributions to our community’s NewsHub and Q&A Center. If we reach our goal, the Project will donate 120 books to First Read.
All I’m asking you to do is take a few minutes out of your day to share what you know with others. Traffic to our knowledge community, Living the Path, is growing. People are already benefiting from the content on the site. Your contributions will enable us to help more people.

Thanks,
Fard
