Webinar Date/Time: January 29, 2010, 12:30 PM (EST)
Featured Webinar Leader: Nedra Kline Weinreich

With the world’s attention focused on the devastation in Haiti, millions of people around the globe have come together to support the many victims of this tragedy.  Once again, social workshopcoversmand new media technologies like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and mobile have helped people learn about the disaster and provide support. However, some have wondered how long it will be before our attention shifts to other matters and Haiti is forgotten once again. Noted communications expert Geoff Livingston is hopeful that it won’t.

Our short attention spans can also impact how we view efforts to communicate with others using social technologies — especially as it relates to promoting and encouraging change for good. In some cases, people have been hyper-focused on realizing the short-term goals of their social media efforts rather than building long-lasting, fruitful relationships with others. Like any relationship, those built via social media take time to develop.

Noted social marketing and social media expert, Nedra Kline Weinreich is one person who has argued that we in the health industry need to be focusing on building movements rather than campaigns in social media. I’m pleased that she has accepted my invitation to lead our next “Casual Conversation” Webinar, titled “Building Movements with Social Media.” Following is a brief description of the Webinar Nedra will lead on January 29, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

Building Movements with Social Media

When we’re trying to bring about large-scale health or social change, we need to move from a “campaign” mindset to thinking of it as building a movement. Social media like Twitter, social networks, blogs and video can help to engage your target groups and move them to action. Please join us on the next Path of the Blue Eye Project “Casual Conversations” Webinar, where Nedra Weinreich of Weinreich Communications will lead a discussion about how we can best use these tools to build a movement around an issue. We’ll particularly look at how social media is currently being used to spur people to action for Haiti, and how it might be used to create a long-term sustainable movement for rebuilding the country.
